Tall Artificial Trees

Tall trees do a job no other piece of planting can: they occupy the empty vertical space between furniture and ceiling, which is where most rooms feel unfinished. A tall tree in an awkward corner is often more effective than another piece of furniture, and it takes up far less usable floor.

Height is the thing to get right, and it is easy to underestimate. In a standard UK room with a ceiling around 2.4m, a tree of 150–180cm reads as substantial without crowding. Above 180cm you want the ceiling height to match, or the tree starts to feel jammed in. Also remember the planter adds height — often 20–30cm — so a 180cm tree in a tall pot can approach 2.1m in the room.

These work particularly well flanking a fireplace, filling the dead space beside a staircase, softening a large window, or dividing an open-plan space without building anything. For genuinely oversized specimens see large artificial trees; for something to stand it in, see large floor-standing planters.
