Christmas Garlands

Garlands are what turn scattered Christmas decorations into a scheme. A single run of greenery along a mantelpiece, up a bannister or around a door frame pulls the whole room together in a way that individual ornaments never quite manage, because it draws a continuous line through the space.

Artificial garlands have a decisive practical edge over fresh. Real garlands are heavy, they shed constantly over the surface below, and indoor heating dries them out within a fortnight — exactly the fortnight you wanted them for. An artificial one holds its shape and colour for the whole season and comes out again next year.

Measure before you buy, and add a little extra: a garland pulled taut looks mean, and the draping and swagging that makes it look generous eats length faster than you expect.
